The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), is currently presided over a meeting of the security council with the core intent of charging the security personnel to wake up to their statutory role of protecting the citizens against internal and external aggressions.
The meeting was held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja and had Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in attendance.
All service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police also attended the meeting.
Others are the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; heads of the Department of State Services and National Intelligence Agency; Ministers of Justice, Police Affairs, Defence and Interior among others.
The meeting came a day after the Nigeria Governors’ Forum decried what it called the nation’s worsening security situation.
The governors have resolved to meet the President and the service chiefs separately on the matter.
