EFCC GRILLS LAGOS SPEAKER OVER ALLEGED FINANCIAL MISDEMEANOR

Mudashiru Obasa, over allegations of financial recklessness. Obasa, it was learnt, arrived at the EFCC Abuja office at 10:00 am on Thursday. He arrived in company of his lawyers, who were asked to wait at the reception while he was being grilled. It was also learnt that operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), have also extended an invitation to him for an interview. JUSTICE: COURT SLAMS LIFE BEHIND BARS ON PASTOR AND FIVE OTHERS

Gold kolawole went missing in the church last year. Justice Odusola convicted the defendants having found them guilty of the two-count charge of kidnapping and aiding and abetting to kidnap based on the circumstantial evidence presented by the prosecution. He also condemned in strong terms the complicity, compromise, and lackadaisical attitude of the Ondo state police command after Gold got missing which also led the burning of Sotitobire Church. KOGI STATE GOVERNOR VOWS TO RID THE STATE OF CRIMINALS

Kogi State Governor,  Yahaya Bello has vowed that the current onslaught on criminal elements in the state will be sustained until they are crushed completely. The governor, who gave the reassurance on Friday while speaking to journalists at the Eid ground in Agasa, Okene Local Government Area of the state, said he will lead security agents in the coming days to smoke out criminals from their hideouts. KIDNAPPERS BESIEGE KADUNA-ABUJA EXPRESSWAY AMIDST SALLAH FESTIVITIES

By: Alli Farouq Kidnappers on Thursday returned to Abuja-Kaduna expressways, allegedly abducting an unspecified number of travellers. There has been respite on kidnapping activities on the highway since a ban on inter-state movement in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Witnesses that spoke with our newsmen reiterated that the attack occurred near Katari village a few minutes to 9am. Mohammed Lawan, who escaped the attack, told newsmen that the kidnappers attacked travelers heading to Kaduna around 8:50 am. “We were not more than 250 meters to the point when we took a detour after sighting them. I sighted a Honda CRV 98 Model with its doors wide open and without anybody in it, an indication that they abducted the occupants. “We then heard several gunshots when a helicopter in camouflage livery hovered around the area,” Mr Lawan said.

A source who prefers to be anonymous made it known that the first blast occurred at Gunge, a residential area, around 6pm today Thursday 30th July 2020. According to a security source, the other blast happened around a place where cars are sold in the state capital. It is unclear if Boko Haram insurgents are behind the attacks which happened 24 hours after the convoy of Babagana Zulum, the governor, was attacked in Kukawa local government area of the state. Boko Haram has continued to operate in different parts of the north-east, especially in Borno state despite the claim of the government that the sect has been defeated. In a statement signed on Monday, the DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, Ph.D., said some prominent personalities and socio-cultural groups have resorted to divisive acts through inciting statements aimed at pitting individuals, groups and ethnic nationalities against another. The United States Department of Justice has confirmed that Nigerian cyber-crime suspect, Raymond Abass Igbalode also known as Hushpuppi made his first appearance in court in Chicago on Friday. The United State Department of Justice says the 37-year-old is expected to be transferred to Los Angeles in the coming weeks to face criminal charges bordering on cyber financial crimes. Hushpuppi, a Dubai resident was arrested last month by UAE security agencies for allegedly conspiring to launder hundreds of millions of dollars from business email compromise (BEC) frauds and other scams, including schemes targeting a U.S. law firm, a foreign bank and an English Premier League club. The security outfit took to its social media page to break the news on Thursday. The Dubai police on Thursday said that they recovered over 150 million dirhams (estimated at about N16 billion) in cash during a coordinated raid on the apartments of Nigerians residing in that city a couple of weeks ago. Ramon Abbas and Olalekan Ponle, widely known as Hushpuppi and Woodberry, respectively, and their alleged gang of 10 other Nigerians were the target of the June 10 operation tagged “Fox Hunt 2”, Dubai police officials said.
